Six Ways to Put a Brand on a Shower Product

The first question most private label shower programs ask is not about tooling or flow rates. It is simpler: how do we get our name on this product, and what is the least committing honest way to do it? There are six practical answers, and they fall into two families. Four of them put a mark on the product itself, namely pad printing, silk screen printing, laser marking, and a logo molded into the part. Two of them leave the product neutral and put the brand somewhere else, namely an applied label and branding carried entirely by the packaging.

Which family you start in usually follows the development route rather than the design. A simple OEM project changes appearance items only, meaning logo, color, packaging, and manual, on an existing catalog model, so it favors methods that need no tooling at all. A full OEM or ODM project that is already opening a mold can absorb a molded-in logo at close to no additional unit cost, because the tooling spend is happening anyway. Pad Printing and Silk Screen: Ink on the Surface

Pad printing, sometimes called transfer printing, picks ink out of an etched plate with a soft silicone pad and presses it onto the part. Because the pad deforms as it lands, it prints onto compound curves that no flat process can reach: handle barrels, tapered bodies, the rim around a spray face. Silk screen printing works differently, pushing ink through a fine mesh with a squeegee. It needs a flat or gently curved area, but it lays down a thicker, more saturated ink film, which makes it the better choice for larger marks and solid blocks of color.

Both are surface layers, and that is the honest way to describe their durability. A shower head lives in hot water, soap, shampoo, hand contact, and occasionally descaling agents, and a printed mark sits on top of all of that rather than inside the part. Placement therefore matters as much as process: the same logo printed on a gripped area will show wear sooner than one placed on the back of the handle or on the collar behind the spray face. The commercial appeal of both methods is low commitment. Laser Marking: Engraved, With No Ink Layer

Operationally, laser marking is a per-part cycle with no consumables and no plate to remake when artwork changes, which makes it comfortable at low quantities and convenient for programs that run several brands off one model. What it does need is a jig for each part shape, so position repeatability should be confirmed on the first marked samples rather than assumed.

A Molded-In Logo: Permanent, But a Tooling Decision

A molded-in logo is cut into the appearance mold, so every part leaves the tool already carrying the mark, raised or recessed. It is not a coating and not a post-process engraving; it is the geometry of the part. That is why it cannot wear off, and why it gives a product the feel of tooling made for one brand rather than a catalog item with a name added. The catch is timing. Adding a logo to the appearance tool has to be agreed before mold work begins, because putting a mark into a finished tool is a tooling modification rather than a setting change. Labels and Packaging-Only Branding: The Lowest-Commitment Routes

An applied label is added after finishing, so it can carry full color, gradients, and fine detail that no marking process on this list will hold, and it can be changed between orders for the cost of a label print run. The trade-off is durability. A label is the weakest of the six options in hot, wet, frequently handled service, and edges can lift over time. The sensible use is informational content such as a model code, origin marking, or care guidance, or as a bridge while a brand is still proving itself, rather than as the permanent expression of the brand.

Packaging-only branding takes the product out of the equation entirely: the retail color box, sleeve, or blister card carries all the identity, and the product ships unmarked or with a neutral mark. It is the fastest route to a private label SKU, needs no product tooling, and lets one base product serve several brands and several channels with different boxes. The surface a mark lands on constrains the method more than the design does. Artwork, Color, and Placement: What to Send

Most delays in a branding job are artwork delays rather than production delays. Marking itself is a short operation; preparing files, agreeing a color, and approving placement is where the calendar actually goes.
